For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Cadillac Lyriq have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Kia EV6 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The Cadillac Lyriq has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The EV6 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The Lyriq’s standard pretensioning seatbelts also sense rear collisions and remove slack from the seatbelts to help protect the occupants from whiplash and other injuries. The EV6 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Cadillac Lyriq achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Kia EV6 has not been tested.

The Cadillac Lyriq comes with a standard HD Surround Vision and it also offers an optional rear camera washer to make backing always safe, regardless of road dirt or grime, while the Kia EV6 doesn’t offer a camera washer, requiring manual cleaning.

Both the Lyriq and the EV6 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available driver alert monitors.

The Cadillac Lyriq weighs 723 to 1706 pounds more than the Kia EV6. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Cadillac Lyriq is safer than the Kia EV6:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Cadillac Lyriq is safer than the Kia EV6:

The Lyriq’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and unlimited miles longer than the EV6’s (6/unlimited vs. 5/100,000).

Brakes and Stopping

The Lyriq’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the EV6 are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Lyriq has larger standard tires than the EV6 (265/50R20 vs. 235/55R19). The Lyriq’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the EV6 (275/40R22 vs. 255/45R20).

The Lyriq’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the EV6’s standard 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Lyriq has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the EV6. The Lyriq’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels on the EV6 GT.

The Cadillac Lyriq’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Kia EV6 only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires standard on the Lyriq can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The EV6 doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Lyriq’s wheelbase is 7.6 inches longer than on the EV6 (121.8 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Lyriq is 1.8 inches wider in the front and 1.4 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the EV6.

The Lyriq’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the EV6’s (48.3% to 51.7%). This gives the Lyriq more stable handling and braking.

For greater off-road capability the Lyriq has a greater minimum ground clearance than the EV6 (7 vs. 6.1 inches), allowing the Lyriq to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Lyriq offers available computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The EV6 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The Lyriq has 2.1 cubic feet more passenger volume than the EV6 (105.1 vs. 103).

The Lyriq has 1.9 inches more front legroom, 1.6 inches more front hip room, 1.1 inches more front shoulder room, .6 inches more rear legroom, .8 inches more rear hip room and 3 inches more rear shoulder room than the EV6.

Cargo Capacity

The Lyriq has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the EV6 with its rear seat up (28 vs. 24.4 cubic feet). The Lyriq has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the EV6 with its rear seat folded (60.8 vs. 46.7 cubic feet).

Towing

Maximum trailer towing in the Kia EV6 is limited to 2300 pounds. The Lyriq AWD offers up to a 3500 lbs. towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Lyriq uses the StabiliTrak® sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The EV6 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the EV6 Wind/GT-Line/GT, the Lyriq has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Lyriq’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The EV6’s standard passenger windows don’t open or close automatically. With the EV6 GT-Line/GT’s power windows, only the front windows open or close automatically.

The Lyriq’s standard Keyless Access allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Smart Key standard on the EV6 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Lyriq has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The EV6 doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The Lyriq’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The EV6 has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Lyriq has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the EV6.

The Lyriq offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the EV6.

The Cadillac Lyriq has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the infotainment. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Kia charges extra for Homelink® on the EV6.

Recommendations

The Cadillac Lyriq outsold the Kia EV6 by 28% during 2024.
