Safety

The Cadillac Lyriq has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Lyriq has standard head airbag curtains for front and rear seats which act as a forgiving barrier between the driver and outboard passenger's upper bodies and the window and pillars. Combined with high-strength steel door beams and lower side airbags this system increases head protection in broadside collisions. The Hummer EV SUV doesn't offer side airbag protection for the head and are only available for the front seats.

Both the Lyriq and Hummer EV SUV have Rear Cross Traffic Alert, but the Lyriq has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Hummer EV SUV’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Lyriq and the Hummer EV SUV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The Lyriq comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck. The Hummer EV SUV’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

Cadillac’s powertrain warranty covers the Lyriq 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than GMC covers the Hummer EV SUV. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Hummer EV SUV ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The Lyriq’s 6 year corrosion warranty has no mileage limitations, but the corrosion warranty on the Hummer EV SUV runs out after 100,000 miles.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Cadillac vehicles are more reliable than GMC vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac above average in long-term dependability. With 24 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, GMC is rated lower.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Cadillac vehicles are more reliable than GMC vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Cadillac 8 places higher in reliability than GMC.

Tires and Wheels

The Lyriq’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Hummer EV SUV’s 70 series tires. The Lyriq Luxury/Sport’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the Hummer EV SUV’s 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Lyriq has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Hummer EV SUV.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires standard on the Lyriq can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

Suspension and Handling

The Lyriq AWD handles at .82 G’s, while the Hummer EV SUV pulls only .76 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

Chassis

The Lyriq is 10 inches shorter than the Hummer EV SUV, making the Lyriq easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Lyriq is 8.7 inches narrower than the Hummer EV SUV, making the Lyriq easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The Lyriq is 13.9 inches shorter in height than the Hummer EV SUV, making the Lyriq much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

The Lyriq Luxury/Sport offers available computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Cargo Capacity

The Lyriq’s liftgate lifts up in one piece, completely out of the way of loading and unloading, while sheltering the cargo loading area. The Hummer EV SUV’s swing out door blocks loading from the passenger’s side.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Lyriq Luxury/Sport’s available liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its cargo door, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Cadillac service is better than GMC. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac second in service department satisfaction. With a 27% lower rating, GMC is ranked 15th.

Ergonomics

The Lyriq’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Hummer EV SUV’s power windows’ switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Lyriq Luxury/Sport has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer cornering lights. The Lyriq Luxury/Sport also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The Lyriq Luxury/Sport offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Hummer EV SUV.

The Lyriq’s optional Enhanced Automatic Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Auto Parking will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Hummer EV SUV’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

Model Availability

The Lyriq is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
